ANNUAL FUND DRIVE ’19

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Dear YBVNY Families and Friends,

As we stand at the threshold of another exciting year ahead of us, we fondly remember the time we spent together in 2019, as part of the YBVNY.

Founded in 2004 by like-minded group of parents in New York, YBVNY continues to nurture the love for Bulgarian music, language and culture through choral singing, hands on educational projects and small group-based progressive learning of the Bulgarian language. Our approach to teaching Bulgarian language through alternative progressive methods is unique among Bulgarian educational institutions abroad and crafted throughout years of serving the unique needs of our American-born students.

During the last academic year, the children participated in more than five public performances. We have worked with twenty five bilingual children, introducing them to their Bulgarian heritage and the power of learning in a new and participatory way. We sang Bulgarian songs at the Golden Festival in front of thousands of Balkan Folk Music lovers who received us with open hearts and big smiles. The children made Martenitsii, Kukerski masks and Surovachki in our Bulgarian craft workshops. In addition, our young members had the opportunity to enroll in a new and unique class: “Mathematics taught the Bulgarian way”.

For adults and older children we offer 101 KABA GAIDI NEW YORK (Bulgarian bagpipe class), the TUPAN (Bulgarian double sided drum) class, and Bulgarian folk singing and folk dancing classes. We have also expanded our offerings for adults with a new class, “Bulgarian language for beginners” which was met with great enthusiasm by our non-Bulgarian-speaking members.

Going forward, we have planned to expand our reach and our activities. In 2020, we will continue our Bulgarian music, culture and language and math education and we’ll continue to share the richness of Bulgarian culture with others by performing in the prestigious Golden Festival 2020 Folk festival, collaborating in a “Kukeri” presentation organized by the Battery Park City Authority, the 9th Avenue International Food Festival, and many other exciting events.

Young Bulgarian Voices New York is a bearer of more than ten year old tradition and experience in educating the minds as well as the hearts of our bilingual children. Some of the families that started the Young Bulgarian Voices many years ago are still with us today – a commitment that speaks volumes about our ability to serve the needs of the community.

Come to one of our workshops! Visit a performance!  Email us or call us to inquire about a schedule! There are many ways to get involved but there is only one YBVNY. Your support and your investment make our programs possible, make our mission a success and reach more children and their parents annually. Our fundraising goal for this campaign is to raise $15,000 by December 31, 2019. Our wish is to see more children and parents crowd the corridors of YBVNY; to witness more happy faces after our workshops; and to meet more of you in 2020.

YBVNY would be grateful if you could help us financially to achieve our goals together.
